Art on the Dot

Interactive art program at NC Museum of Art's West Building.

Art on the Dot is the North Carolina Museum of Art's casual approach to gallery exploration. A museum educator guides small groups through about three carefully selected artworks in just 30 minutes, making it perfect for families who want an enriching experience without a lengthy time commitment. The tour is intimate and interactive, encouraging visitors to really engage with each piece rather than rushing through the galleries. This program runs in multiple rounds throughout the afternoon, with a 15-minute break between each session, so you can join one tour or stay for several if your family is interested. There's no cost—admission is free—and you're welcome to return on different weekends to discover new artworks and hear from different docents. It's an excellent option for families with younger children or anyone looking to dip into the museum for a focused, manageable visit.
