Art on the Dot

Interactive art experience at NC Museum of Art West Building.

Art on the Dot is the North Carolina Museum of Art's quick-bite approach to exploring artwork. A museum docent guides small groups through three carefully selected pieces in just 30 minutes, making it perfect for families who want an art experience without a lengthy time commitment. The museum runs three consecutive tours each Saturday and Sunday afternoon, with 15-minute breaks between rounds, so you can join one session or stick around for multiple tours if your family is enjoying it. This program is ideal for younger children or anyone new to museums, since the focused format keeps things engaging and manageable. Best of all, admission is completely free—you just show up at the West Building at the scheduled time and find the docent. It's a relaxed way to introduce kids to art appreciation and discover what the museum has to offer, with the chance to return the following weekend to see what different artworks the next docent has selected.
