Birdwatching for Beginners

Learn to identify birds on a guided walk at Prairie Ridge Ecostation.

Curious about birdwatching but not sure where to begin? This relaxed program at Prairie Ridge welcomes kids ages 8 and up to discover how to spot and identify common birds in the area. You'll join a small group for a gentle walk—about a mile total—through different habitats while learning to recognize the birds you encounter. Beyond just spotting wildlife, you'll learn about citizen science projects where your observations can contribute to real research efforts. Registration is required to attend, so be sure to sign up ahead of time. This is a great introduction for families new to birdwatching who want hands-on experience in a supportive setting.
