BugFest 2026
Hands-on bug exhibits and nature exploration at NC Museum's annual BugFest.
BugFest is the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences' biggest bug-themed celebration of the year. This full-day event features over 100 interactive exhibits, hands-on crafts, games, and activities spread across both museum buildings—indoors and outside. Kids and families can explore the world of arthropods while crawling, climbing, and discovering alongside scientists and entomologists who are on hand to answer questions about insects. For hungry explorers, Café Insecta offers bug-inspired food options.
The event is completely free and welcomes visitors of all ages. The museum has thought through accessibility carefully, offering drop-off areas, accessible restrooms, family restrooms, nursing rooms, quiet spaces, and assisted listening devices. Upon request, the museum also provides sighted guides, ASL interpreters, and blind-deaf interpreters to ensure everyone can participate fully. This is a great way to spend a full day learning about the natural world without worrying about admission costs.
