Dino Dig Live
Hands-on paleontology dig experience at Nature Research Center.
During the summer months, the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences' paleontology team heads out West to hunt for fossils and continue work at active dig sites. This event gives families a behind-the-scenes look at their fieldwork through a live video connection straight from a dinosaur quarry. You can watch the paleontologists in action as they search for clues about ancient life across quarries spanning Nebraska, Utah, and other western states. They'll be looking for specimens that are millions of years old while you get to observe the real work of fossil hunting.
You have two ways to join: attend in person at the SECU Daily Planet Theater at the Nature Research Center, or stream the event live online. Either way, this is an interactive experience—you'll have the chance to ask questions and chat with the paleontologists working in the field. The session runs just 30 minutes, making it a great fit for younger kids with shorter attention spans. The museum runs these live digs every week throughout the summer, so if your family enjoys this one, there are more opportunities to tune in.
