Live Animal Feeding: Lobster
Watch a live lobster feeding at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences.
Come watch a live lobster feeding at the Arthropod Zoo! This short, family-friendly program lets you observe these fascinating crustaceans up close while learning about their impressive biology. You'll meet members of the Living Collections staff who can share insights about how these clawed creatures use their tough exoskeletons—reinforced with minerals like lime—to survive in their environment. The lobsters are truly feisty characters, and watching them feed is both educational and entertaining.
This is a walk-up program, so no advance registration is needed—just show up and enjoy! The 15-minute session takes place on the fourth floor of the Nature Exploration Center. It's a great choice for families with children of any age, as well as teens and adults curious about marine life. Best of all, it's completely free to attend, making it an easy addition to your museum visit.
