Live Animal Feeding: Lobster
Watch live feeding of a lobster at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences.
Watch staff members feed a live Maine lobster during this short, hands-on program at the Arthropod Zoo. You'll get to meet the Living Collections team and learn fascinating facts about these remarkable creatures. Lobsters are known for their fierce personalities and powerful claws, and you'll discover how they build and maintain their tough exoskeletons using minerals like lime—a natural adaptation that helps them survive.
This is a walk-up program, so no advance registration is needed. It's completely free and welcomes families with children of all ages, as well as teens and adults. The 15-minute session takes place on the fourth floor of the Nature Exploration Center. It's a quick but memorable way to observe animal behavior and connect with museum educators who are passionate about the creatures in their care.
