Migrating Monarchs

Experience one of nature's most remarkable phenomena during this family-friendly program at Prairie Ridge. You'll begin in the Nature Neighborhood Garden, learning about the habitats that support Monarch butterflies on their incredible annual migration south. Your group will explore how the spaces managed at Prairie Ridge provide essential resources these butterflies need for their long journey. After your garden introduction, head out into the prairie to search for Monarchs in their natural habitat. If conditions are right, you may even have the chance to catch and gently release a live butterfly. Throughout the program, you'll also learn about citizen science efforts like the Monarch Larvae Monitoring Project and Monarch Watch, which help scientists track and protect these populations. Registration is required to participate.
