Migrating Monarchs

Nature program about monarch butterfly migration at Prairie Ridge nature center.

Join us for a hands-on program exploring one of nature's most fascinating events—the annual Monarch butterfly migration. This family-friendly activity begins in the Nature Neighborhood Garden, where you'll learn about the habitats Prairie Ridge maintains and discover how these spaces support Monarchs on their long journey south. From there, the group heads out into the prairie itself to search for butterflies in their natural setting. With some luck, you may even participate in catching and releasing a live Monarch butterfly during the program. Along the way, you'll learn about citizen science initiatives like the Monarch Larvae Monitoring Project and Monarch Watch. Registration is required for this two-hour program, so be sure to sign up in advance.
