Moth Madness & Movie Night
Moth Madness & Movie Night at Chapel Hill Public Library—nature & film fun.
Kick off the evening with a screening of *The Extraordinary Caterpillar*, a 60-minute documentary showcasing the hidden world of caterpillars through stunning close-up footage. You'll learn how these small creatures play a crucial role in nature's food webs and get inspired to support local biodiversity in your own yard. After the film wraps up, head outside for the main event: an evening of hands-on crafts, games, and moth hunting in Pritchard Park.
As the sun sets, science educator David George will lead you in using special lights to attract moths to viewing sheets scattered throughout the park. North Carolina is home to over 3,000 moth species, and most are active at night and rarely seen—this is your chance to spot them! Expect to walk on some uneven ground to reach the best viewing spots, but all areas stay near paved paths. Restrooms, water, and drinking fountains are available. Wear comfortable outdoor clothes and closed-toed shoes, bring a flashlight and water bottle, and consider bug spray. Registration is required for this family-friendly adventure.
