Mutts Going Miles
Running program for dog lovers at Burlington Animal Services—meet twice monthly.
Does your family love dogs and running? This program pairs participants with adoptable dogs from Burlington Animal Services for outdoor running adventures. Meetings happen twice monthly (typically the 1st and 3rd Saturdays at 9am), and each runner gets paired with a dog that would benefit from the exercise. The dogs in the program have been at the shelter for at least 30 days and often have lots of energy to burn—expect them to pull and jump, especially at first. Groups are kept small, with a maximum of 6-7 dogs per session.
The program is free and open to everyone in the community, but pre-registration is required. Participants must be at least 14 years old; younger teens need a parent or guardian present. Keep in mind the running route includes rocks, hills, mud, and roots, so sturdy closed-toed shoes and appropriate athletic wear are essential. This isn't the right fit for anyone with balance concerns or those using walkers or strollers. To join, register in advance through the contact information provided.
