Public Tour

Join a museum docent for a guided exploration of the People's Collection at the North Carolina Museum of Art. This 50-minute tour works wonderfully whether you're visiting for the first time, stopping by after grabbing lunch at the café, or simply want to learn more about the museum's expansive holdings spanning over 5,000 years of art and culture. General admission is free to participate. What you'll experience depends on your docent's focus—they might guide you through multiple galleries, highlight specific artists, or teach you about the fundamentals and elements of art itself. All ages are welcome to join! Just meet your assigned docent at the public tour sign in the West Building when you arrive. Keep in mind that tour content and availability can vary based on which docents are scheduled that day, so each visit offers something a little different.
