Public Tour

Guided tour of the NC Museum of Art's West Building.

Join a North Carolina Museum of Art docent for a guided tour through the People's Collection, showcasing thousands of years of art and cultural artifacts. This 50-minute experience works beautifully for first-time visitors, as a post-lunch activity, or whenever your family wants to learn more about what's on display. Depending on the docent leading the tour, you might explore multiple galleries, focus on particular artists, or discover the basic principles and techniques behind visual art. Everyone is welcome to join, from toddlers to grandparents. Simply meet your docent at the public tour sign in the West Building when you arrive—no advance registration needed. Admission is free with general museum entry. Keep in mind that tour content varies based on which docent is available that day, so each visit offers something a bit different. It's a relaxed way to get oriented at the museum or deepen your appreciation for the collection.
