Public Tour

Guided tour of art at NC Museum of Art's West Building.

This free guided tour gives families an accessible introduction to the North Carolina Museum of Art's incredible collection. A museum docent will lead a 50-minute exploration through the West Building, showcasing thousands of years of art and cultural treasures. Depending on the docent leading that day, your group might wander through multiple galleries, focus on particular artists, or learn about the basic principles and techniques behind different artworks. It's a wonderful option whether you're visiting the museum for the first time, looking for something to do after grabbing lunch at the café, or simply wanting to deepen your appreciation for art. All ages are welcome to join in. Just head to the West Building and look for the public tour sign when you arrive—that's where you'll meet your docent. Keep in mind that tour content varies based on which docent is available that day, so each experience offers something a little different. There's no registration required, and admission is completely free.
