Right to Read Kickoff & The Librarians Screening

Spend an evening learning about challenges to reading freedom and how libraries are responding. This event kicks off the annual Right to Read advocacy campaign with three activities: start in the library lobby from 6–6:30pm to connect with local organizations, enjoy refreshments, and write postcards supporting intellectual freedom. From 6:30–7pm, hear Daniel Ayers and Quinn Ray from The Hometown Holler podcast discuss book challenges happening in North Carolina and efforts to restrict access to diverse authors and perspectives. At 7:30pm, watch *The Librarians*, an Emmy-nominated documentary following librarians across states like Texas and Florida as they defend their collections against rising book-ban campaigns. This event is designed for adults interested in civil liberties, education, and community action. It combines activism, live music, and thoughtful film viewing into one evening.
