Saturday Science Sparks

Saturday Science Sparks brings hands-on encounters with real scientific research right to Morehead Planetarium. This new program partners with UNC researchers and community experts to showcase active science across multiple fields—from astronomy and physics to computer science. The September session will feature UNC's Lohmann Lab exploring the science of sea turtles, giving visitors a chance to learn directly from the scientists doing the work. The program is designed for the whole family and is included with your regular planetarium admission, making it an easy add-on to your visit. You'll have several hours to explore, with activities running from mid-morning through afternoon. No special registration is needed—just arrive during operating hours and dive in. It's a great way to show kids that science isn't just in textbooks; it's happening in labs and classrooms right here in Chapel Hill.
