Sun Prints as Personal Archiving with Shiloh Jines
Create sun prints at NC Museum of Art's Museum Park.
Learn the art of cyanotype printing in this hands-on workshop led by instructor Shiloh Jines. You'll create your own sun print using a camera-free photographic technique inspired by botanical artist Anna Atkins. The process is straightforward: place objects directly onto specially treated paper, expose them to UV light, and watch a striking blue and white image develop. What makes this workshop meaningful is the personal touch—you'll pair your chosen plant, organic material, or object with a meaningful quote or text passage that connects to your life. This could be a line that's stayed with you, words from a cherished source, or text that guides you. You might reflect on your relationship with nature or select plants that anchor you to meaningful memories.
All cyanotype supplies are provided, and you're welcome to bring a personal object and quote of your choosing. If you'd prefer not to bring items, the workshop offers a limited selection of pressed flowers and ready-made quotes. This experience works well for anyone interested in art, nature, personal reflection, or trying a new creative technique. Tickets are $80 for general admission or $70 for members.
