Public Tour

This free guided tour takes you through the North Carolina Museum of Art's West Building for about 50 minutes. Your museum docent will lead the way through the People's Collection, which spans over 5,000 years of art and culture. Depending on the docent and the day, the tour might cover multiple galleries, zero in on particular artists, or walk you through the basics of how art is made and what makes it meaningful. It's a great option whether you're visiting the museum for the first time, want to explore after grabbing lunch at the café, or are simply curious about what's on display. Every family member is welcome to join—there's no age restriction. Just head to the public tour sign in West Building when you arrive, and your docent will meet you there. Keep in mind that the specific galleries and focus areas can shift based on which docent is available that day.
