Art on the Dot

Interactive art activity at NC Museum of Art's West Building.

Art on the Dot is the North Carolina Museum of Art's approach to guided tours that work with busy family schedules. Rather than committing to a lengthy experience, visitors join a docent for a focused 30-minute conversation centered on just three artworks. The museum runs three back-to-back rounds of these tours on weekend afternoons, each separated by a 15-minute break, so families can drop in for one session or stay longer to experience multiple rounds and see different artwork selections. This is a great option if your kids are new to museums or you're short on time but still want expert insight into the collection. General admission is free, making it an affordable way to explore art together. Since the tours rotate which pieces are featured, you might discover something different each visit. Check the museum's accessibility information if you have specific needs, and plan to arrive a bit early to connect with a docent at the start of a tour round.
